Cameron Platt

Attorney

Cameron took a less traditional path to becoming a lawyer. For 22 years, he worked as a police officer, sergeant, and union representative for the Salt Lake City Police Department. He worked as a patrol officer, accident investigator, detective, and motorcycle officer. Following his promotion to sergeant, Cameron supervised all these same squads but worked longest as the senior sergeant on the motor squad.

The earliest exposure Cameron had to helping others in employment issues occurred during an incident where a Captain accused an officer of misconduct. Cameron intervened as the officer’s union representative, and ultimately an investigation showed that the officer was wrongly accused and the misconduct was in fact committed by a different officer. Cameron continued to advocate and represent officers by various positions in the Salt Lake Police Association, and as President of the Salt Lake Sergeants Association.

Upon retirement, Cameron attended and graduated from the University of Utah College of Law. During law school, Cameron volunteered in several pro bono clinics to include: Street Law, Family Law, and Wills for Heroes. During his second year, Cameron took over as Student Coordinator for the Wills for Heroes clinic and continued to volunteer in that clinic. Cameron was also awarded a Fellowship to work on the Mobile Home Park Help Line which provided information to tenants and owners of mobile homes.

In his second year of law school, Cameron enrolled in a class titled “Employment Law” that was taught by Lauren Scholnick. On the first day of class Cameron told Lauren of his plan to become an attorney and represent first responders in employment issues. Not long after, Lauren’s law firm Strindberg & Scholnick interviewed to hire a law clerk. Cameron applied and was hired and has enjoyed using his prior law enforcement experience to help first responders and other employees with employment issues.

Upon successfully passing the Utah Bar exam, Cameron accepted a position with Strindberg & Scholnick as an associate attorney. Now that school and the bar exam is behind, he enjoys spending time again with his family, riding motorcycles and has taken up mountain biking to “work off” all the sitting and reading from law school.
