S&S and the ACLU of Utah are happy to report that Judge Kimball granted their motion for a Preliminary Injunction to protect the marriages of same-sex couples solemnized following the Kitchen v. Herbert decision on December 20, 2013.
Judge Kimball of the Utah District Court issued an opinion on May 19, 2014 requiring that Governor Gary Herbert and the Utah Attorney General recognize the marriages entered into between December 20, 2013 and Janaury 6, 2014. In addition, Judge Kimball's order enjoins the Governor and Attorney General from applying Utah's marriage bans retroactively to the same-sex marriages that were entered into during that time.
S&S wantes to thank the ACLU for allowing them to work on this momentous case and for the ACLU's tireless work in support of same-sex equality. We also want to cangatulate our own Erik Strindberg on a moving and powerful oral argument given in support of the motion!
