Law Clerk (Bar Pending)
Anthony recently graduated from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law with a J.D. and a certificate in Public Interest Law and Policy. Before attending law school, Anthony earned his undergraduate and master’s degrees from Ohio State University before pursuing a career in law.
Anthony’s passion for labor and employment law began at a young age. Growing up in rural Ohio, his family had strong union ties, and he worked in a variety of local jobs including on poultry farms and at McDonald’s. He continued supporting himself through both of his degrees at Ohio State by working as a line cook, bar back, barista, and bartender. His experiences as a worker have shown him the value of solidarity in the workplace, the impact of a good work environment, and the importance of fair pay.
When he lost his job as a bartender in March 2020 due to layoffs associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, Anthony decided to turn his passion for labor issues and job justice into a career as a labor and employment attorney. His return to school was inspired by his goal to improve the lives of workers and build strong communities through the accessibility of good jobs.
After his first year of law school, Anthony worked in Seattle with Drivers Union, representing Uber and Lyft drivers unfairly discharged from their positions. He spent the summer writing briefs, meeting with clients, and advocating for drivers to receive better pay and benefits. While at Drivers Union, Anthony learned a great deal about community, organizing, and how to advocate for clients in practical and legal ways.
During law school, Anthony earned an academic Outstanding Achievement Award in both Legal Research and Employment Law. Anthony earned the CALI Excellence for the Future Award (recognizing the student with the highest grade in the course) in Trial Advocacy and subsequently competed as a member of the College of Law’s 2024 Trial Advocacy Team at the Regional Trial Competition in Denver. Anthony also competed as a member of the 2024 College of Law’s Moot Court team, placing second at the Regional Moot Court competition and representing the College of Law at the National Moot Court Competition in New York City.
While in law school, Anthony became very involved with student government and student-run initiatives. He started a student organization centered on labor and employment law, bringing speakers and students together to discuss career options and issues affecting workers. He also served as a Student Director of the U’s Pro Bono Initiative, where he managed free legal advice nights for community members facing employment, debt, and housing issues. After being elected by his peers to be their representative for the Student Bar Association, he successfully championed a policy change that allowed law students to be paid while working as externs at public interest placements.
Anthony joined the firm in January 2023 as a law clerk and accepted an associate position following his graduation in May 2024. During his time at the firm under the supervision of attorneys, he has represented clients at Unemployment Hearings, examined witnesses at a labor arbitration hearing, drafted motions for court hearings, advocated for clients in mediations, and negotiated settlement of disputes. Anthony also has experience with the UALD (Utah Antidiscrimination and Labor Division) and EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) processes, assisting clients in submitting documents and evidence and navigating the investigation and mediation processes.
