The gender pay gap
Two stories this week related to equal pay -- one close to home and one on a national scale.
First, the Salt Lake Tribune ran a story yesterday on Utah's wage gap, which is the fourth-biggest in the nation behind Wyoming, Louisiana, and West Virginia. According to the estimates in the American Community Survey, women working full-time in Utah make 70 cents on the dollar compared to men -- about 8 cents per dollar worse than the national average. Last year, Utah women made 69 cents on the dollar compared to men, so this figure may be an improvement.
Second, The Institute for Women's Policy Research published data predicting that the gender pay gap will remain alive and well through 2058. In other words, "most women working today will not see equal pay during their working lives."
